Shenanigan's in Belleville sued by patron claiming he was attacked by intoxicated men

A man is suing the Belleville bar where he says he was attacked and beaten by two intoxicated customers.

Kyle Fraser filed a complaint on June 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Shenanigan's Inc.. John Doe and Richard Doe, two unknown patrons, are also named as defendants.

Fraser was at Shenanigan's in Belleville on Dec. 9, 2012, according to the complaint. He says two other men, identified in the lawsuit as John Doe and Richard Doe were also at the bar. Fraser says the two men were "allowed to consume alcoholic beverages" to a point of intoxication.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Dec. 9, Fraser says the two drunk men physically attacked him. He says he was seriously injured and required to undergo painful surgeries to his jaw and face. Fraser says he has been in severe pain and will be disfigured permanently as a result of the alleged beating.

Fraser says Shenanigan's violated the Illinois Dram Shop Act by allowing the Does to over-consume alcohol and physically attack another customer in the bar. He also accuses the bar of negligence for failing to protect patrons. Fraser contends the bar owner knows Shenanigan's is a "frequent site for fights" based on "past eruptions of violence on its premises."

Fraser asks to be awarded more than $100,000 for medical expenses, disfigurement and lost enjoyment of life.

Attorney Jarrod P. Beasley of the Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville represents Fraser.
