Root canal improperly performed, suit says

A man has filed suit against his dentist after he claims she failed to properly perform a root canal, causing him to incur additional dental costs and substantial pain.

William Sax claims he visited the dentist in 2012 after he continually experienced severe pain in his tooth. Before then, defendant Dentist Michelle Williams had performed a root canal on the same tooth in her St. Clair County office, according to the complaint filed May 30 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

During Williams’s procedure, however, she failed to cap the tooth and failed to perform a root canal on both of the tooth’s roots, the suit states.

As a result, Sax suffered pain and nerve damages, experienced severe pain and suffering, lost his ability to enjoy life and incurred continuing dental costs, the complaint says. He also claims he lost wages.

In his complaint, Sax is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000 but no more than $75,000, plus costs and expenses.

He will be represented by Andrew G. Toennies of Lashly and Baer in St. Louis.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-270.
