Caseyville police officer files amended complaint against Chief

Caseyville police officer Scott Miller on May 24 filed an amended complaint in his lawsuit against the Caseyville police chief and the Village of Caseyville involving the alleged “leaking” of police operations information.

St. Clair County Circuit Judge Robert LeChien on May 16 allowed Miller 14 days to amend his complaint against J.D. Roth – the village’s police chief - after granting a defense motion to dismiss.

Miller claims Roth made “defamatory and false statements regarding Plaintiff Scott Miller” in the amended complaint.

Miller claims Roth accused him of being a “leak” of information to citizen activist Brad Van Hoose regarding the operations of the Caseyville Police Department.

Roth was arrested May 8 for misconduct in his job as police chief, and he is being investigated by a St. Clair County grand jury.

Represented by Belleville attorney Alvin C. Paulson, the Village says it is immune from liability and should be dismissed. A hearing on the Village’s motion to dismiss is set June 24.

Alton attorney John Hopkins represents Miller.

Matthew Young of The Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville represents Roth.
