A man and woman claim they sustained various injuries after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign, causing a collision.
Dennis Pullem and Lisa Stubbs filed a lawsuit May 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Matthew W. Crook.
In their complaint, the plaintiffs claim Pullem was driving east on Eighth Street at its intersection with Missouri Avenue in East St. Louis on Jan. 15 at about 1:05 p.m. when Crook, who drove north on Missouri Avenue, ran a stop sign and collided with Pullem’s vehicle. At the time of the collision, Stubbs was riding as a passenger in Pullem’s vehicle, according to the complaint.
Because of the collision, Pullem suffered neck, left arm and back injuries while Stubbs suffered neck and back injuries, the suit states. Pullem and Stubbs also incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering, lost wages and endured an impaired earning capacity, the complaint says.
The plaintiffs blame Crook for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast, failed to stop at the stop sign and drove without adequate brakes.
In their two-count complaint, the plaintiffs seek a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
