An East St. Louis man has filed suit against the driver who he claims caused a multi-car collision when he rear-ended a vehicle.
Isaac Smith claims he was riding in a vehicle Eva Jones was driving north on North 25th Street at the 500 block on Sept. 17 at about 4:27 p.m. At the same time, Jennett Holley and defendant Roselle A.B. Palma were driving north on the same road, according to the complaint filed May 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Suddenly, Palma rear-ended Holley’s vehicle, the suit states. In turn, Holley struck the back of Jones’s vehicle, the complaint says.
“Eva Jones and Jennett Holley did not have the chance to avoid the collision due to its sudden and unforeseeable nature,” the suit states.
Because of the collision, Smith suffered serious and permanent injuries to his neck, back and spine; became sick, sore, lame and disordered; suffered physical pain and mental anguish; and incurred medical costs, the complaint says.
Palma negligently drove too fast and failed to exercise the ordinary degree of care to avoid a collision, Smith claims.
In his complaint, Smith is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Ely Hadowsky of Brown and Brown in St. Louis will be representing him.
