A woman has filed suit against the Alton business where she claims she tripped on steps while attempting to deliver various documents.
Barbara J. Crum claims she was working for Residential Options and was attempting to deliver a container of file folders to a storage shed at 1017 Oakwood in Alton. Defendant Challenge Unlimited owned the shed where Crum was delivering the folders, according to the complaint filed May 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.
“Residential Options used the shed for storage and accessed it by a sidewalk beginning at the building and ending at concrete steps descending to the entry door of the shed,” the suit states.
Crum blames an unspecified “unsafe” condition on the steps for causing her fall.
Because of her fall, Crum suffered serious and permanent injuries, experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs, endured disability and lost her earnings, the suit states.
Crum blames Challenge Unlimited for causing her fall, saying it negligently failed to provide safe premises, allowed an unsafe condition to exist on the steps of the shed, maintained steps that were a nuisance and maintained a set of steps that violated code, among other negligent acts.
In her complaint, Crum seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
