Woman claims Alton driver ran stop sign, caused accident

A woman says she was hurt when another driver allegedly ran a stop sign in Alton and crashed into her.

Pamela Cunningham filed a lawsuit April 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Ralph Collins Jr.

Cunningham says she was driving north on Pearl Street in July 2011. At the same time, Collins was driving his Chevrolet Caprice west on Brown Street, according to the complaint. Cunningham claims she had the right-of-way at the intersection of Brown and Pearl Streets. Despite that, Cunningham says Collins failed to stop at the stop sign, continued into the intersection and crashed into her.

Cunningham accuses Collins of negligence and asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and costs of the lawsuit.

She is represented by attorney John C. Webster of Alton. They request a jury trial.
