An East St. Louis man has filed suit against the company that runs the light rail transit system, saying it did not provide adequate security that could have allegedly prevented an attack against him.
Elijah Miles claims he was assaulted while he was departing a train operated by defendant Bi-State Development Agency doing business as Metro on March 17, 2012.
“The defendant, William Osborne, in the city of Washington Park, county of St. Clair, state of Illinois, on the light rail train stopped at the Washington Park Metro platform located at or near 955 North Kingshighway, East St. Louis, Illinois, negligently and carelessly pushed, struck, shove, and/or pulled the plaintiff, Elijah Miles, causing him to fall,” the suit filed March 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court states.
Because of the incident, Miles suffered great physical pain and mental anguish, incurred medical costs and suffered extensive and permanent injuries, according to the complaint.
Miles blames Metro for contributing to his injuries, saying the company negligently failed to warn him of dangerous conditions, failed to provide adequate security and failed to provide a security force with adequate equipment to protect the plaintiff from dangerous conditions.
In his complaint, Miles is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.
