Mid-turn collision on Broadway subject of suit

A St. Clair County woman has filed suit against the Granite City woman who she claims struck her vehicle in the midst of a turn.

Sharon McMurray filed a lawsuit March 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Deloris Fields.

In her complaint, McMurray claims she drove west on Broadway and was making a left turn on Feb. 6, 2012, at about 6:48 p.m. when Fields, who was driving north on Route 3, collided with the rear passenger’s side of McMurray’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, McMurray suffered disabling injuries to her head, skull, neck, chest, back and body and suffered severe injuries, according to the complaint. In addition, she incurred medical costs, the suit states.

McMurray blames Fields for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to obey a traffic signal, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, drove too fast, failed to decrease her speed to avoid a collision and failed to verify that McMurray’s lane was clear before entering it.

In her complaint, McMurray seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Benjamin J. Willmann of Clayton, Mo. will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-475.
