Marshalls department store accused of failing to fix plumbing leak

A St. Clair County man says he was hurt when he slipped on a wet floor in the bathroom of a Fairview Heights department store.

William Carroll filed a lawsuit Feb. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Marshalls of Illinois LLC.

Carroll was shopping in the Marshalls on North Illinois Street in December 2011 and went into the men's bathroom, according to the complaint. As he was leaving a restroom stall, Carroll says he slipped on water that had allegedly leaked from some of the plumbing.

Carroll accuses the store of negligence for failing to fix the water leak or warn customers of the danger of a wet floor. He asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills, lost wages and court fees.

Attorney Stephen J. Telken of East St. Louis represents Carroll.
