A Lebanon woman claims a driver rear-ended the vehicle her daughter was driving, causing the woman to become a paraplegic.
Elizabeth Lewis filed a lawsuit Feb. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Teresa M. Harris.
In her complaint, Lewis alleges she rode in a vehicle her daughter was driving near the intersection of Frank Scott Parkway and Sullivan Boulevard in Fairview Heights on Feb. 14, 2011, when Harris, who was driving behind her, rear-ended her.
Because of the collision, Lewis claims she sustained severe back and neck injuries that contributed to her inability to walk and experienced disability. She also incurred medical costs and suffered emotional distress, the suit states.
In her complaint, Lewis blames Harris for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop, failed to obey traffic signals and failed to maintain a proper speed.
Lewis seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus other relief the court deems just.
