Man sues for injuries from wreck on I-64

In recently filed court documents, a man claims he suffered injuries to his head, neck, back, right shoulder and spine after a driver rear-ended his vehicle.

Paul Farris filed a lawsuit Feb. 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Don Carlos Austin.

In his complaint, Farris alleges he drove a 1997 Dodge pick-up west on Interstate 64 near mile post 3 in East St. Louis Township on Oct. 27 when Austin, who drove a 1997 Ford Explorer behind Farris, struck the Dodge.

In addition to his various injuries, Farris incurred medical costs, endured a diminished ability to enjoy life and incurred travel and medical costs because of the collision, according to the complaint.

Farris blames Austin for causing the collision, saying he negligently followed Farris’s vehicle too closely, drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep his vehicle under control, failed to warn of his impending approach and failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, among other negligent acts.

In his complaint, Farris is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Justin B. Mattea of Collinsville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-73.
