Exit ramp rear-end accident is subject of suit

In recently filed court documents, a woman claims she suffered head and neck injuries when a driver struck her vehicle as she sat at a red light.

Jennifer Jones filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Diane L. Clay.

In her complaint, Jones alleges she drove south on Interstate 64 near Caseyville when she utilized the exit ramp at State Highway 157 on Feb. 4, 2011. At the end of the exit ramp, Jones came to a stop at a red light when Clay, who was driving behind Jones, struck her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Jones became sick, sore, lame and disordered; suffered great physical pain and mental anguish; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

Jones blames Clay for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop when danger was imminent, failed to timely apply her brakes to avoid a collision and followed Jones’s vehicle too closely.

In her complaint, Jones seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

William J. Mateyka of Mateyka and Associates will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-49.
