Woman claims chest and neck injuries in North Illinois accident

A woman claims she suffered chest, neck, back, foot and leg injuries after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn and struck her vehicle.

Jeanice M. Lewis filed a lawsuit Jan. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Stephen J. Mueller.

In her complaint, Lewis alleges she drove east on Frank Scott Parkway West and was approaching its intersection with North Illinois Street on Dec. 22, 2011, when Mueller attempted to turn. During the turn, Mueller struck Lewis’s vehicle, according to the complaint filed Jan. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

In addition to her injuries, Lewis became sick, sore, lame and disordered; experienced pain and suffering; and incurred significant medical costs, the suit states. She also suffered disability, lost her normal life, suffered from a diminished capacity to enjoy life and lost wages and her earning capacity, the complaint says.

Lewis blames Mueller for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner as to strike Lewis’s vehicle when Lewis had the right-of-way, failed to yield to oncoming traffic, made a left-hand turn without stopping, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast, failed to decrease his speed while approaching an intersection and failed to observe the right-of-way.

In her complaint, Lewis seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

D. Jeffrey Ezra of Ezra and Associates in Collinsville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-0003.
