Another suit filed involving I-55 ambulance-semi crash

A driver for a Madison County ambulance service is accused of causing a crash with a semi-truck.
Daniel Eddinger filed a lawsuit Jan. 31 in Madison County Circuit Court against Theodore Berg Jr., Alhambra Community Fire Protection District and Hamel Community Fire Protection District, doing business as Alhambra-Hamel Ambulance Service.

The suit is at least the third one filed in relation to a September 2012 accident in Hamel on Interstate 55.

According to the newest complaint, Berg was driving an Alhambra-Hamel Ambulance Service ambulance, and heading south on I-55 north of Edwardsville. Eddinger says he was following behind Berg in a Kenworth Conventional Cab semi-truck.

Near milepost 28 Berg allegedly made a right turn onto an exit ramp leading to a rest area. Eddinger claims the turn came eithout warning or signal and was so sudden that he was unable to slow his truck. The semi-truck driver says he was unable to avoid crashing into the side of the ambulance.

Eddinger says his truck was totalled and he was hurt in the crash. He accuses Berg and the Alhambra-Hamel Ambulance Service of negligence and asks for more than $150,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost income and costs of the lawsuit.

Attorneys John P. Cunningham and Denise Baker-Seal of Belleville represent Eddinger.
