Edwardsville woman sues over rear-end accident

An Edwardsville woman claims she sustained back, neck and shoulder injuries after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Marcia and George Slifka filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Peter Horeheld.

In their complaint, the Slifkas allege Marcia Slifka drove a 2005 GMC Yukon south on Archer Avenue in Willow Springs on Feb. 11, 2011. Marcia Slifka was forced to stop for traffic when Horeheld, who was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger behind her, struck her vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Marcia Slifka suffered great pain and mental anguish, sustained a disability, lost her normal life and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

Because of his wife’s injuries, George Slifka claims he lost her relationship and consortium, lost income to care for his wife and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Horeheld negligently failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop in time to avoid a collision, failed to give a proper warning of his impending collision, failed to reduce his speed to avoid an accident and drove without adequate brakes, the suit states.

In their two-count complaint, the Slifkas seek a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-131.
