Stagger Inn patron claims he slipped and fell on broken glass

An Edwardsville bar is being sued after one of its customers cut his hand on broken glass that was allegedly left on the floor.
Michael Mazzuca filed a lawsuit Jan. 25 against Stagger Inn Again Inc. in Madison County Circuit Court.

Mazzuca says went to the Stagger Inn in February 2012 to watch his brother play in a band. While in the bar Mazzuca allegedly slipped on some liquid and broken glass on the floor. He claims he cut several tendons, a nerve and an artery in his had, which required surgery to repair.

The plaintiff alleges the glass was dropped by an intoxicated person at the bar. According to the complaint, several customers say the broken glass and liquid remained on the floor of the Stagger Inn for several hours that night despite a waitress knowing it was there.

Mazzuca accuses the bar and its employees of negligence and violating Illinois' Dram Shop Act. He asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills, lost wages and court fees.

Attorney John C. Webster of Alton represents Mazzuca.
