MCBA presents SLU Law with scholarship competition award

The Madison County Bar Association (MCBA) presented John Soucy, executive director of development of special projects at St. Louis University School of Law, with a $4,745 check Jan. 24 at Gentelin’s Restaurant in Alton.

The law school won a competition among MCBA members, where lawyers were asked to contribute to their alma mater at one of five participating law schools. Contributions made by MCBA members were matched by the association's $7,500 contribution divided among the schools in the same proportion as the members’ contributions.

The 2012 competition yielded $15,920 in combined member and association donations for MCBA scholarships at SLU Law as well as Washington University, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, University of Illinois and the University of Missouri.

Mary Nalefski, co-chair of the MCBA Scholarship Committee said that since the competition started in 2007, close to $100,000 has been raised and distributed the participating law schools.
