Minor boy sues over Route 159 rear-end accident

A minor boy claims he sustained neck and back injuries after a driver rear-ended his vehicle.

Deion Buckels and his mother, Tamika Johnson, filed a lawsuit Dec. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against David Brewer.

In his complaint, Buckels alleges he drove north on Route 159 at its intersection with Parkway Drive in Swansea on Sept. 11 when Brewer struck the back of his vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Buckels became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; suffered disability; experienced pain and suffering; and lost wages, according to the complaint.

He blames Brewer for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner that he struck the rear of Buckels’s vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast and followed Buckels too closely.

In his complaint, Brewer seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich, Michelle M. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey of Fairview Heights will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-681.
