Helvetia Sharpshooters, others named in wrongful death complaint over July accident

The father of a man who was killed by an alleged drunk driver says the man who caused the crash was drinking at the Madison County Fairgrounds before the incident.

William H. Dittmar, on behalf of the estate of William E. Dittmar, filed a lawsuit Dec. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Helvetia Sharpshooters Society, Madison County and Shaw's Shack Inc.

Dittmar claims his son was a passenger in a car driven by Ryan Junker in July 2012. He says Junker, allegedly intoxicated, crashed the car on Ellis Road in Highland. Dittmar says his son was killed in the crash.

According to the complaint, Junker was at the Madison County Fair prior to the crash and was served alcohol at a booth run by Helvetia Sharpshooters. Dittmar also alleges Junker was drinking at Shaw's Shack in Jamestown on the day of the crash.

Dittmar accuses the Helvetia Sharpshooters, Madison County and Shaw's Shack of violating Illinois' Dram Shop Act and says they are responsible for his son's death. He asks for more than $100,000 in damages for expenses and court costs.

Attorney Thomas O. Falb, of Alton, represents Dittmar.
