Woman claims work truck drove into front of parked vehicle

A Madison County woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims drove his work truck into her parked vehicle.

Deborah Travis and Mary V. Menges claim they sitting inside a parked vehicle on South Center Street in Collinsville on Dec. 29, 2010, when defendant Joseph Perez, who was operating a work truck in front of the two women, drove into the front of their vehicle.

Because of the collision, Travis and Menges sustained injuries to their heads, necks and backs; incurred medical costs of more than $18,000; and suffered severe pain, according to the complaint.

Travis and Menges blame Perez and his employer, defendant W. James Taylor doing business as Jim Taylor, for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to warn of his impending approach and caused his vehicle to strike the front of Travis’s.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs, interest and other relief the court deems just.

They will be represented by John B. Barberis of the Law Office of John B. Barberis Jr. in St. Jacob.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-2098.
