Staph infection claimed after C-section, suit says

A Madison County woman says her doctor caused her to contract a staph infection after a C-section delivery.

Crystal Vetter filed a lawsuit Dec. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dr. Alyssa Lynch and her employers, Southwestern Illinois Health Facilities Inc., doing business as Anderson Hospital and Granite City Clinic Corp., doing business as Meridian Ob-Gyn Associates.

According to the petition, Dr. Lynch performed a cesarean section to deliver Vetter's child in December 2010. However, Vetter alleges Dr. Lynch failed to clean, irrigate or allow drainage from the surgical incisions during and after the procedure. Vetter says she was diagnoses with a staph infection shortly after and had to undergo multiple post c-section surgeries to remedy the infection.

Vetter accuses Dr. Lynch and her employers of negligence and seeks more than $200,000 in damages for medical costs, lost wages and court fees.

She is represented by attorney Donald R. Schaaf Jr. of Jerseyville. They ask for a jury trial.
