Jan. 29 dinner honoring Romani to benefit veterans

A dinner to honor retired Madison County Circuit Judge Charles Romani for his service on the bench will be held in the Meridian Ballroom at the Morris University Center on Jan. 29.

Tickets cost $75. Proceeds will benefit the Madison County Veterans’ Treatment Court, the first of its kind nationwide. The event is open to the public.

Romani founded the specialty court, which provides inter-agency collaborative, non-adversarial treatment for veterans in the criminal justice system who suffer PTSD, psychological and/or substance abuse problems from serving in the Armed Forces, in 2009.

Romani is a Vietnam veteran, who retired from the bench in December.

Tickets can be ordered from The Veterans’ Court Foundation, a charity, at P.O. Box 1326 Granite City, Ill. 62040. Call (618) 692-7474 or email jjrekowski@co.madison.il.us for more information.

“Whether you served, have children serving or parents that did serve, this is a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to them by giving back to the veterans of this county," organizer John Rekowski said in a statement. "We are hoping to fill the ballroom as a show of support for our men and women who have served in uniform."
