Campaign cash flowing into Beiser-Smith House match

Smith

Beiser

Last week State Rep. Dan Beiser (D-Alton) raked in more than $100,000 in contributions that came largely from labor groups.

Beiser is fighting challenger Kathy Smith (R-Alton) in House District 111 in what appears to be the most competitive General Assembly race in the Metro-East.

Chicago Land Operators Joint Labor Management PAC gave Beiser $27,500; Illinois Laborers' Legislative Committee gave him $20,000. Other big contributors included state Democratic organizations.

The Illinois Chamber PAC also gave Beiser $1,500.

Smith, a Madison County Board member, received three donations totaling $43,147.25 last week. Stand for Children Political Action Committee - a group dedicated to education reform - contributed $40,000.

The House Republican Organization contributed $1,147.25 in staffing and State Rep. Mike Bost (R-Carbondale) gave Smith $2,000.

Beiser has served in the House seat since 2004.
