A man has filed suit against one of the workers at his residence, alleging he was injured after the employee allowed a door to slam on his wrist.
Fred Towns Sr. claims he was living at property owned by defendant VIP Healthcare Professionals at 1113 Exchange Ave. in East St. Louis. As Towns was traversing through the front door of a residence in February, defendant Kim Edwards, who worked for VIP, mishandled the door and allowed it to slam against Towns's wrist, according to the complaint filed Sept. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Because of the incident, Towns has been unable to attend to his normal affairs, has suffered from a great deal of pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs, the suit states.
Edwards negligently failed to properly control the front door to the residence, failed to properly open the front door, failed to properly secure the door and failed to warn Towns of the impending injury to his wrist, the complaint says.
In his two-count complaint, Towns is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
Towns will be represented by Clay B. St. Clair and Natalie M. Sager of Crowder and Scoggins in Columbia.
