A mother is asking to be paid more than $200,000 after a Bethalto crash allegedly caused her daughter to be injured and then take the stress of the crash out on her.
Tiffany Kane, individually an as mother and next friend of Brianna Hansen file the lawsuit against Susan E. Yeager and Janice Hansen on May 4 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The alleged crash happened June 8, 2010 on State Route 140. Janice Hansen was driving a vehicle with Brianna Hansen as a passenger, according to the petition. Kane says Hansen was driving east on State Route 140 and collided with Yeager's vehicle at the intersection with South Moreland Road.
Kane contends Brianna Hansen received serious and permanent injuries in the crash. She says the passenger's "excruciating and extensive injuries and her endeavor to become healed" have kept her from normal life activities. She accues Yaeger and Janice Hansen of negligence for failing to take the necessary steps to avoid the crash and the resulting injuries.
Kane also accuses both drivers of negligent infliction of mental distress. She says both women should have known their actions would cause Brianna Hansen mental anxiety along with emotional and physical distress. Kane claims Hansen took the effects of the crash out on her, inflicting physical harm and severe mental anxiety on Kane.
Kane is asking to be awarded more than $200,000 in damages. Attorneys with Gori, Julian & Associates in Edwardsville are representing her. They demand a jury trial.
