Madison County Circuit Clerk Matt Melucci dies

Melucci

Madison County Circuit Clerk Matt Melucci died Thursday evening after suffering from lung cancer.

Melucci, who had served as Circuit Clerk since 1992, also served for a long time as chairman of the Madison County Democrat organization.

In recent weeks, Jim Stack of Collinsville (brother of former Madison County Circuit Judge Dan Stack) had assumed duties as head of the county Democrat organization.

Melucci had announced last September that he would not seek re-election when his term expires in December 2012.

"I am very grateful to all my employees for the excellent job they do serving the judges, attorneys, litigants and others who utilize our services," he stated in a press release in September. "In an office as large and complex as the Circuit Clerk's, it takes good people to run it efficiently."

Madison County Clerk Mark von Nida, a Democrat, is running for Circuit Clerk in the general election. His Republican opponent is John Barberis Jr.
