Dupo tire store sued by customer who trips on floor mat

An Alton woman says she was hurt when she tried to leave a Dupo tire store and tripped over the door mat.

Cecelia Slack filed a lawsuit April 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against C&M Tire Inc., doing business as Cross Midwest Warehouse & Retread.

Slack says she was a customer of the tire store in June 2010 when she tried to leave the building and tripped on the floor mat by the door. Slack says she hurt her right wrist and hand in the fall. She claims the mat was defective and, therefore, to blame for the injuries.

Slack contends Cross Midwest Warehouse is negligent for allowing an allegedly defective mat to sit at the doorway. She is asking for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses and court costs.

Attorneys Todd W. Sivia of Edwardsville and Reiad M. Khouri of St. Louis represent Slack. They ask for a jury trial.
