Madison County Circuit Judge Ann Callis has been re-appointed to her fourth two-year term as chief judge effective May 1.
Callis has served as chief judge since May 1, 2006.
"I am honored by my colleagues' confidence, and I look forward to partnering with them in our dedication to serve the citizens of Madison County, with the continued implementation of our programs such as Mandatory Foreclosure Mediation, Mandatory Mediation in Medical Malpractice cases, and our successful Veterans Court," Callis said in a statement.
The Third Judicial Circuit's nine elected circuit judges voted by secret ballot to elect Callis chief judge.
She was appointed to the bench as an associate judge in 1995 and appointed circuit judge in 1999. She was the first woman elected to serve as a circuit judge in Madison County in 2000 and was the first woman chief judge to serve the Third Circuit which includes Madison and Bond counties.
Her current six-year term expires this year. She, along with Circuit Judges Dave Hylla, Barbara Crowder and John Knight, are seeking to be retained in the general election.
According to a press release announcing her re-appointment, Callis recently was accepted and attended a program at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government to improve the administration of justice.
She also has been appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve on the Illinois Judicial Technology Committee, the Special Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Justice and Mental Health Planning, and the E-Access Policy Group.
