A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle.
Devyn N. Hartwick claims she was driving east on Interstate 64 near the city of East St. Louis on March 8 when defendant Mary K. Dzengolewski failed to control her speed and struck Hartwick's vehicle.
Because of the collision, Hartwick sustained injuries, disability and disfigurement; and lost earnings, according to the complaint filed Dec. 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, she incurred medical costs and experienced a substantially diminished earning capacity, the suit states.
Dzengolewski negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to properly apply her brakes, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and ran into the rear of Hartwick's vehicle, the complaint says.
In her complaint, Hartwick is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will be representing her.
