Man sues driver over rear-end collision

A man claims he sustained neck, shoulder and low back injuries after a driver rear-ended his vehicle.

John Haney filed a lawsuit Sept. 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Germaine Parker.

In his complaint, Haney alleges he drove south on Old Collinsville Road near its intersection with Durley Road in Fairview Heights on Aug. 19 when Parker, who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of his vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Haney became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. He also suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the suit states.

Haney blames Parker for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a way as to strike the rear of Haney's vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast and drove too closely to Haney's vehicle.

In his complaint, Haney seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey of Fairview Heights will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-525.
