Anderson Hospital named in suit over patient's wrist injury

A man has filed suit against Anderson Hospital and one of its doctors, alleging they failed to properly treat his left wrist fracture.

James Brett and Yvonne M. Coffey claim James Brett Coffey visited Anderson Hospital with a fractured left wrist on Sept. 7, 2009.

At the hospital, defendant Dr. Peter Anderson treated James Coffey's left wrist, but failed to provide post-operative care until Nov. 19, 2009, according to the complaint filed Sept. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court.

James Coffey does not specify what caused his injuries, but does say he experienced pain and suffering and lost his normal life, the suit states. In addition, James Coffey incurred medical costs, became disfigured and lost wages and benefits, the complaint says.

Yvonee Coffey says she lost her husband's services.

James Coffey blames Anderson Hospital and Anderson for negligently failing to properly treat his left wrist, for failing to timely treat the post-procedure condition of James Coffey's wrist and for providing improper medical treatment to James Coffey.

In his six-count complaint, the Coffeys are seeking a judgment of more than $300,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Alan G. Pirtle of Becker, Paulson, Hoerner and Thompson in Belleville will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-910.
