Med mal complaint claims wife's heart attack went undiagnosed

A man has filed suit against the doctor who he claims failed to diagnose his wife as suffering from a heart attack.

Mark Ahlvers alleges his wife, Nina Ahlvers, arrived at Anderson Hospital on Sept. 7, 2007, with a history of chest pains. At the hospital, defendant Dr. Kelly Geldmacher treated Nina Ahlvers, according to the complaint filed Sept. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court.

However, Geldmacher failed to timely diagnose and treat Nina Ahlvers for a heart attack and congestive heart failure, the suit states. Two days after her arrival at the hospital, Nina Ahlvers died, the complaint says.

Because of his wife's death, Mark Ahlvers claims he lost her society and support.

In addition to Geldmacher, Mark Ahlvers names Midwest Emergency Department Services as a defendant, which operated the emergency room that Nina Ahlvers visited.

In his three-count complaint, Mark Ahlvers seeks a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

James R. Williams of the Law Offices of Williams, Caponi and Foley in Belleville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-884.
