Alton casino sued over patron's walkway injuries

A Missouri man sustained injuries to his left shoulder, left wrist, back and neck following a fall at Alton Gaming Company, according to recently filed court documents.

Louis Shelton Jr. filed a lawsuit Sept. 1 in Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Gaming Company.

In his complaint, Shelton alleges he was a patron at Alton Gaming Company located at 219 Piasa St. in Alton on May 31, 2010, when he tripped and fell on an uneven walkway.

In addition to his injuries, Shelton suffered great physical pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs of more than $20,451.15 because of the incident, according to the complaint.

He blames Alton Gaming for causing his injuries, saying the company negligently permitted the existence of an uneven walkway and failed to warn of it or to remove it.

Shelton seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Daniel J. Gauthier of Pedroli and Gauthier in Clayton will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-869.
