Affirmative sued for uninsured motorist coverage

A St. Clair County man is suing his insurance carrier for payment after he was allegedly hit by an uninsured driver.

Ronald Santiago filed the lawsuit July 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Affirmative Insurance Company.

Santiago says the crash happened as he was driving north on North 24th Street in St. Clair County in May 2010. As he crossed the intersection of Belleview Avenue, Santiago says Felicia Edison ignored a stop sign on Belleview Avenue and crashed into him.

Santiago says he was hurt in the crash and required to pay for the medical care necessary to treat his injuries. Edison allegedly did not have insurance coverage. Santiago says his own insurance policy through Affirmative Insurance included uninsured motorist coverage.

Santiago wants to be paid more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills and court costs. His attorney, Christopher A. Allen of St. Louis, asks for a jury trial.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Case No.11-L-413.
