Kmart shopper claims automatic doors closed on her

A St. Clair County woman is suing a Fairview Heights Kmart after she was allegedly knocked down by the store's automatic doors.

Marcellee Meravy filed a lawsuit March 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Sears Holding Management Corporation, doing business as Kmart.

Meravy says she was visiting the Kmart in November 2010. As she entered the store, she says the automated doors closed on her, knocking her to the floor. Meravy claims her hip was broken in the fall, among other injuries.

Meravy accuses Kmart of negligence for failing to warn customers of its malfunctioning door. Meravy asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court costs.

Meravy is represented by attorney Stephen M. Kernan of Belleville.
