A man claims he sustained injuries to his knee and spine after working as a brakeman, conductor and engineer for Union Pacific Railroad Company.
Richard Joseph Hanschen filed a lawsuit March 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Union Pacific Railroad Company.
Hanschen claims he worked for the railroad for years in the various capacities listed above and sustained his injuries because of the work he was forced to perform.
In addition to his injuries, Hanschen suffered pain and mental anguish, incurred medical costs, lost wages and fringe benefits and experienced an impaired ability to work and enjoy his normal life pursuits, according to the complaint.
Hanschen blames Union Pacific for a number of negligent acts, saying the company negligently failed to provide him with a safe place to work and failed to enact a comprehensive ergonomics program, among other negligent actions.
In his complaint, Hanschen seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
