Highland doctor sues YMCA over roller skating injury

A Highland man is suing the Edwardsville YMCA claiming he was hurt at the roller skating rink.

Peter Kim, an internist who practices medicine in Highland, filed a lawsuit Feb. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against the Young Men's Christian Association of Edwardsville.

According to the complaint, Kim was hosting a roller-skating party for his daughter at the Goshen Road YMCA in May 2010. While Kim was skating around the rink wearing a pair of skates provided by the YMCA, he claims one of them locked up, causing him to fall.

Kim accuses the YMCA of negligence for allowing him to use allegedly defective skates.

He is asking for at least $50,000 in damages for medical costs, loss of income and court fees.

Kim is represented by attorneys Keith Short and Noel L. Smith Jr. of Wood River.
