A former employee of a Granite City fast food restaurant is suing its owners after he was allegedly fired for filing a workers' compensation claim.
Michael Franklin filed the complaint against Morgan's Foods Inc. Feb. 11 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Franklin says he worked as a manager for the KFC on Johnson Road from August 2002 through December 2010. In January 2010 Franklin says he was hurt on the job, reported his injuries to his employer and filed a claim through the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act.
Franklin claims in December 2010 he was fired in retaliation for his filing a claim.
Franklin accuses Morgan's Foods of retaliatory discharge and seeks compensatory and punitive damages totaling more than $100,000. He is represented by attorneys Thomas C. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey of Fairview Heights.
