A Wood River bicyclist is suing the driver she says hit her with his car while she was riding.
Denise Y. Hanks filed the complaint against Charles E. Karpan Oct. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.
According to the lawsuit, in August Hanks was riding her bike on Beach Street near the intersection with First Street in Wood River. Hanks says Karpan was driving his Mercury Monterey south on First Street at the same time.
Hanks says Karpan had stopped at the intersection but then allegedly pulled forward from the stop sign and hit Hanks' bicycle on the right side.
Hanks is asking for more than $50,000 for her injuries, medical expenses and court costs. She is represented by attorney Lanny Darr, of Alton.
