A civil engineering firm is suing the owners of a Belleville property for failing to pay for engineering services performed at the site of a propsosed subdivision.
Berutti & Associates Inc. filed the lawsuit against Daniel and Sharon Jokisch Sept. 30 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
According to the complaint, the Jokischs wanted to develop a 100-acre piece of property into a residential subdivision. In May 2004 the Jokischs allegedly came to a verbal agreement with Berutti & Associates for planning and surveying services on the land. Berutti engineers say they worked on the project from May 2004 to September 2005. Berutti then sent an invoice to the Jokischs for the work performed which totaled more than $88,000.
Berutti & Associates says the Jokischs paid only $1,400 of the balance due and still owe more than $87,000. Berutti is suing for breach of a verbal contract and requests to be paid the remaining balance plus interest and court costs.
Berutti is represented by attorneys Wayne D. Skigen and Jason D. Johnson of Edwardsville. They demand a jury trial.
