Suit names Target in slip and fall accident

A woman claims she sustained injuries after she slipped and fell on wet carpet at a nationwide retail chain store.

Loretta Boston filed a lawsuit June 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against Target Corporation.

Boston claims she visited the store on Troy Road in Edwardsville on May 7, 2009, when the incident occurred.

"As the Plaintiff was moving from the carpeted to the non-carpeted surface, her foot slid on the carpeting and onto the adjacent area, causing Plaintiff to fall to the floor," the suit states.

Because of her fall, Boston sustained injuries, experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and lost her normal life, according to the complaint.

She blames Target for causing her fall, saying the store allowed certain carpeting to remain slick and slippery after a carpet cleaning, allowed moisture to form on non-carpeted surfaces, failed to warn its customers of the unsafe condition and failed to instruct on proper cleaning procedures.

In her complaint, Boston seeks a judgment of more than $50,000.

James E. Gorman of Lucco, Brown, Threlkeld and Dawson in Edwardsville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-645.
