Mascoutah homeowners say insurer failed to pay tornado claim

Two St. Clair County residents have filed suit against their insurance company, claiming it refused to pay them in full for a claim they submitted following a tornado that destroyed their home.

Mark and Susan Albrecht of 5865 State Route 4 in Mascoutah claim their home, outbuildings and personal property were destroyed by a tornado and/or high winds on June 8, 2009.

The Albrechts submitted a claim to defendant State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, but the insurance company has refused to fully pay the claim, according to the complaint filed May 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

In their complaint, the Albrechts are seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, a sum of $25,000, attorneys' fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Kevin J. Stine of Mathis, Marifian and Richter in Belleville will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-256.
