It's called sprawl

By The Madison County Record | May 30, 2010

To the Editor:

The only people the proposed Reider Road interchange development on Interstate 64 in St. Clair County serves are road builders, developers and realtors.

Diamonds, like London, Amsterdam and San Francisco are lovely because of a concentration of resources in a central area--pressure concentrates resources and design.

Any twit can build out into the desert for ever. Just visit San Jose, New Jersey, Las Vegas, to name a few of many. They are sad places to live. They are not places really, simply a life style devoted to spending time burning oil and sitting in automobiles.

The average commute in Atlanta is pushing over an hour and a half a day. We are feeding a machine and it is getting bigger than we are. We are junkies and the oil companies and car manufacturers are the pushers.

It can stop if we begin at the grass roots level, think and take action.
