SPRINGFIELD - By a vote of 8-2, the STAR bonds bill passed in the state Senate Labor Committee this afternoon.
The controversial legislation is tagged on as an amendment to an unrelated mental health bill.
It passed in a committee chaired by the bill's current sponsor, Sen. Gary Forby (D-Benton).
Earlier today, the bill did not have enough support to go to a vote in the State Government Committee, according to Sen. Kyle McCarter (R-Lebanon).
McCarter has opposed the legislation from the beginning.
The bill, SB2093, could go to a full Senate vote today, McCarter said.
