A Cahokia woman claims employees at a nursing home caused her to sustain numerous ankle and leg injuries after allowing her to fall in the shower and to be hit by a motorized wheelchair.

Velma Penberthy filed a lawsuit April 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Paul's Nursing Home.

Penberthy claims she lived at the nursing home when employees violated her rights through multiple acts. For example, employees failed to elevate Penberthy's feet in order to properly care for an edema; failed to assist her to the shower, resulting in injuries to her ankle and leg; and bumped her with a motorized wheelchair, causing Penberthy to suffer a contusion on her left leg, according to the complaint.

In her complaint, Penberthy seeks a judgment of more than $30,000, plus costs.

James R. Williams of the Law Offices of Williams, Caponi, Foley and Eckert in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-211.
