Shenanigan's attack renders man incapable of supporting family, suit claims

A man claims has been unable to support his wife and minor dependents after patrons at an Edwardsville bar attacked him.

Luke Vine filed a lawsuit April 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against Fred's Friends of Edwardsville doing business as Shenanigans Bar and Grill.

Vine claims he visited the Edwardsville Shenanigans on April 30, 2008, and attempted to exit the bar when a group of unnamed, intoxicated men attacked him.

"The intoxication of the group of men was a direct and proximate cause of their unprovoked attack upon and injury to the Plaintiff, Luke Vine," the suit states.

Because of the attack, Vine suffered severe and permanent injuries, causing him to suffer great physical pain and mental suffering; to incur medical costs; and to be unable to attend to his normal work duties, according to the complaint.

In his two-count complaint, Vine seeks a judgment in excess of the limits of Madison County Circuit Court.

Louis L. Bertrand of Bertrand Law Offices in LaSalle will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-471.
