East St. Louis accident causes injuries, suit claims

A man claims he sustained injuries after a driver failed to yield at a stop sign and struck him.

Eric E. Williams Jr. filed a lawsuit April 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against James E. Andrews.

Williams claims he drove a vehicle east on Lake Drive in East St. Louis and approached its intersection with North 63rd Street on May 19, 2008, when Andrews, who drove south on North 63rd Street, failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and crashed into Williams.

In addition to his personal injuries, Williams claims he experienced pain, suffering and disability; lost his normal life; incurred medical bills; and lost wages, according to the complaint.

He blames Andrews for causing the collision, saying he failed to stop at the stop sign before entering the intersection, failed to yield the right-of-way before entering the intersection, drove too fast for conditions, failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to maintain control over his vehicle.

Williams seeks an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk and Danzinger in Granite City will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-197.
