A woman has filed suit against Wal-Mart, alleging she sustained a fractured left hip after she slipped on water while shopping at the store's O'Fallon location.
Mary S. Roberts claims she was shopping on April 24, 2008, when she slipped and fell on water that had unnaturally accumulated on the floor.
In addition to her fractured hip, Roberts incurred serious, permanent and progressive injuries, experienced severe pain and suffering and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Dec. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, she lost wages and her ability to work has been impaired, the suit states.
Wal-Mart negligently allowed a dangerous condition on its premises, allowed an unnatural accumulation of water on its floors and failed to remove the water, the complaint says.
Roberts is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by Marleen Menendez Suarez of Suarez Law Office in Collinsville.
