Rear-end accident causes woman's lost wages, suit claims

A woman claims she lost wages after she was rear-ended.

Patricia Ellison filed a lawsuit Sept. 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Latoya E. Pinckney.

Ellison claims she was driving a 2001 Nissan Ultima north on Greenmount Road about 300 feet south of Frank Scott Parkway in Shiloh on Nov. 14 at about 5:50 p.m. when Pinckney, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo north on the same road, struck the rear of Ellison's Nissan.

In addition to her lost wages, Ellison has incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and mental suffering and lost her normal life, according to the complaint.

Pinckney negligently drove too fast, failed to decrease her speed, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to apply her brakes, failed to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles and followed Ellison's car too closely, the suit states.

Ellison is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Ryan R. Rice of Hughes Law Firm in Carbondale.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-516.
